The Golden Mile is the stretch of coast between the western edge of Marbella town and Puerto Banús, running either side of the Bulevar Príncipe Alfonso de Hohenlohe. Despite the name, it is several miles long rather than one, and it takes in both the beachside strip and the hillside behind it, rising towards La Concha.
Its best-known names are the Marbella Club and Puente Romano hotels, around which much of the area's reputation was built from the 1950s onwards. On the beach side are Casablanca and the communities around the two hotels, while above the main road are Sierra Blanca, Nagüeles, Lomas del Marbella Club and Cascada de Camoján, with Río Verde towards the Puerto Banús end.
The location is hard to beat. Marbella's old town is around five to ten minutes away by car, Puerto Banús is a similar distance in the other direction, and Málaga airport can be reached in under an hour via the AP-7 or A-7.
